So, my final project.... It all started out as a brainstorm on a piece of notebook paper that has transformed into a complex, yet still fundamentally simple idea. My first idea was to use music and photo's to evoke emotional responses from people, but I wasn't exactly sure what the best way to go about it was. Fortunately I received great help from my instructor and we came up with the idea of three images that had three different musical tracks that evoked different emotional responses from me. A week passed and I did not do much work on it until I had a random thought about the project. I realized that three images and three tracks would not be enough to get an emotional response from anyone, so i thought for a while and found out that five tracks and pictures would be perfect to get the emotional aspect of my piece across.
The next step I took in my planning for my final project was to try and decide what emotions to portray and what order to do them in. I deliberated for a time and decided that I would choose five emotions ranging from anger, to sadness, to hope, to happiness, and finally to elation. I liked the idea that whoever saw the piece would experience a whole range of emotions in an order that might cause confusion. It might cause confusion because of how the individual experiences a whole range of emotions in a short amount of time, 45 seconds to a picture/song. I decided to make it 45 seconds because a minute was too long and 30 seconds was too short to create an emotional up welling in me, so i figured it definitely would not be the enough time for someone else who would be looking at the project.
I chose the atomic bomb picture to go with the song by Hatebreed called Destroy Everything because I felt like they were the obvious choices to go together, since after all atomic bombs DO destroy everything, and also the concept of destruction makes me have angry feelings. I chose the song Paint it Black by the Rolling Stones to go with the picture of the Vietnam War memorial because they both evoke sadness in me, mainly from the sorrow for the dead and also the meaning of the song, which was anti war. I chose the Halo Theme song to go with the clouds because clouds are a representation of hope. They are a representation of hope because they are uplifting and also bright, and when the sun shines on them they almost make you feel like things are going to be ok. The Halo theme songs goes well with the hope emotion because the composer of the song meant it to symbolize Humanities last hope and struggle to defeat their enemies in the video game. I chose the picture of Bob Marley to go with his song called Three Little Birds because he himself was a symbol of happiness, and his music was also centered around making people feel happy and worry free. Finally, I chose the pictures of the movie Animal House and the picture of the club scene because they evoke the emotion of elation in me because of the party atmoshpere, The song Levels by Avicii is consequently a very popular club song that makes me feel like just jumping around and having a good time, or in other words being elated.
